Pros

Many truly good people at Health Catalyst. Leadership tries to take care of those who fit the Catalyst mold. True ability to act as a catalyst for improving healthcare.

Cons

Too many to list. Perhaps the most significant are the inconsistent application of company policies between the leadership and the employees (think of how the US Congress gives themselves special treatment) and the misguided interpretation of humility that encourages passive-aggression over open dialog. These, and the other cons, exist in an environment of much talk and little action -- unless the complaint is coming from leadership -- in which case there will be direct action and very little discussion -- at least very little discussion in the vein of permitting unbiased consideration of the opposing view. Overall "staying in your lane" is prioritized over performance -- and obesiance is a key part of staying in your lane. What gets "pushed to the margin" in this "don't make waves" culture, is hard work and competence. Getting results is not a priority. I guess leadership is okay as long as they can keep raising enough money to keep the water deep enough to cover the stumps.

Your experience is certainly not what we strive for at Health Catalyst, and I would appreciate the chance to better understand your specific situation by visiting directly and privately with you. I will commit to treat confidential information with care and sensitivity, and I would also commit to use this better understanding to go to work to strive towards improvement and greater consistency with our values and operating principles. If you would be open to a private 1:1, my assistant Jenn Howard can help us schedule time. Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
