You get a chance to work with an awesome staff who are truly dedicated to their job and their residents. The rehabilitation staff is terrific and very good at encouraging residents to participate in their own recovery. There are loads of activities and clubs in which to participate. Staff really seems to like and respect each other and shows genuine affection for both short and long term residents. The administrator is the poster child for every business management school in the country and is a great mentor.
Cons
There really were no cons about HCCC. I still try to volunteer there several times a year and if an adequate position opened up, I'd go back in a heartbeat.
The administration/management team is headed by a man who could write the book on excellent leadership. Never asks his team to do anything that he wouldn't do, maintains and open door policy and actually listens to any and all of his employees, regardless of rank or title and knows much of their family stories. The rest of the employees take their lead from him so even though the building is over 25 years old, the atmosphere is as warm and caring as a facility can be.
Cons
It's a skilled nursing facility providing short term rehabilitation and long term care for some people who have chronic or terminal issues. You are going to lose some residents with whom you have established relationships. It's always hard to see them go and help the families through their grief.
Only other con - wish this non profit organization had more money to expand their facility.
