Pros

The majority of the designers were nice and good teamwork

Cons

Steer well clear of this company if you have any asperations to be a creative designer - you will just be formatting powerpoint presentations for dull corporate clients. All the "exciting" design work is given to the creative leads who are obnoxious and talentless. Don't be fooled by the work they post on Instagram or LinkedIn. These are just projects people do in downtime when there is no client work to do. They decided during the pandemic to make 20 people redundant as it was eating into their profits with no regard for anyone's career or livelihood. The majority were over the age of 30 (hmmm funny that) They kept cheaper and younger designers and promoted useless people into more senior positions. Very few females in management only the CEO's wife...Absolute shambles of an HR team who handled the redundancies like discarding trash.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed working with the team at Hamilton-Brown and the collaborative environment that we pride ourselves on. Our designers are either based at our Studios (located in London and Bristol) or work on-site for one of our prestigious clients. Of course, like most businesses over the past 18 months, our designers have had to adapt and work from home during the pandemic, and adapt they have! We were very fortunate to have upgraded our IT systems in January 2020 which meant we were well placed to move seamlessly to working from home. As we move forward, Hamilton-Brown is looking at a hybrid model of mixing working from home and time in the Studio / on-site to ensure we continue to offer flexibility to all our employees whilst also maintaining collaborative working and social connections with colleagues and providing training opportunities. Our talented designers work with a variety of clients and the work encompasses digital, bespoke Adobe Creative Cloud design as well as MS Office Presentation work. Our designers have the opportunity to work across all areas of design and we encourage cross platform work to build our designers knowledge and skills, however we do also have specialist designers who focus on each of these areas. When we recruit designers we try to match individual’s skills and experience to the work of our clients and through our objective setting process look at employee’s goals and aspirations as well as areas for personal development and training opportunities. During the Coronavirus pandemic Hamilton-Brown, like many businesses up and down the country, did have to make some difficult decisions and as a result some of our employees were made redundant. In each instance, it was an extremely difficult decision and, as a business, it was a low point in our history. We do however remain in touch with our “HB alumni” and we are always delighted to hear how they are progressing in their new roles – be that travelling to the other side of the world, taking on a more senior role in design, or leaving design altogether and taking an entirely new career direction. Throughout the company we seek to hire and promote the best candidate for the job. We are proud of our diverse workforce and the gender balance of our organisation with 58% of our employees are female, our Management Team comprises three female Directors and all our Team and Account Leaders for our on-site clients are female. Pros

- Nice people and lot's of socials (with a good amount of the cost covered), good chance to make friends. - I developed my skills during my time there. - From what I could see the graduates went through good technical training. - Exposure to a variety of corporate clients. - PM's are really nice and helpful. - Able to work from home a large majority of the time. - Paid overtime for Google Slides projects is offered fairly regularly.

Cons

- Feeling burnt out is very common with designers there, leading to a high turnover. Studio projects rarely last more than 8 hours, meaning you're on a new project everyday with tight deadlines everyday. I think the benefit of these short term projects is exposure to a variety of clients and variety of work. However after a period of time I felt exhausted and like I was on the 'conveyer belt', with very little time to conceptualise projects. - As there are no long term projects in the studio the chance to develop conceptual skills and deep thinking/research for design is very limited. Therefore I would not stay too long if you're looking to develop in this area. - It seems management take on any work they can get their hands on rather than being discerning. This leads to the feeling that there is no creative outlook for the agency and demotivates the designers. - Very rigid 9-6 hours with lunch from 1-2 everyday. - Pretty much no benefits other than cycle to work and season ticket lone - no health insurance, no death in service, minimum pension contribution, no bonus. - A lot of formatting Powerpoint work.

Pros

Great people, varied creative work, and many opportunities to develop your skills as a creative designer.

Cons

Not always the most competitive salaries, and upper management can sometimes treat you like a number and use you for maximum returns rather than an employee they want to keep happy.
