Pros
Proactive firm, constantly seeking and securing new projects. Well-respected, national engineering and design firm. Great communication throughout, and across, various levels of management and staff. Employees are recognized as valued capital and are well invested in. At least in my experience, I have never felt under-valued or unappreciated. Resources (employees) are well managed to insure maximum billable hours, unlike other firms where employees often struggle to get hours and constantly worry about their employment status. Great support services are readily accessible. Excellent growth opportunities.
Cons
With the implementation of ACA, health insurance isn't as great as it was before. Still very good compared to other private sector firms - a sign of the times, I guess. Occasionally, client demands become overwhelming for the staff on hand, but it goes with the territory. I would rather sacrifice the occasional long day to avoid working for a company that over-staffs, where layoffs are a constant worry. Overall, I'm very pleased with my position at HNTB.
