Pros

People who are not in upper management are nice.

Cons

This company feels like a twilight zone between reality and a corporate nightmare. The New Orleans and Baton Rouge offices had a leadership change about two years ago, and it’s been steadily going downhill since then. They hired a bunch of new people last year but then let 10 of them go. The goal was to double the workforce—hard to see how that can be achieved through layoffs. Nevertheless, they are still proceeding with New Orleans office renovations and expansion. Make it make sense. They’d rather stick to some weird corporate agenda and spend money on renovations than keep the people they worked hard to hire. Understandably, morale is at an all-time low, and people are looking elsewhere now that all trust in management is gone. Upper management is very unpleasant, esp J, lacks interpersonal skills, and only manages from the perspective of covering their own backs. That makes working there stressful. It feels like everyone is on their own, and management is just trying to keep their jobs by any means necessary while lacking the skills needed to build a good corporate culture. Everything is full of big names, but project delivery is poor because everything is so disorganized and management lacks the technical ability to deliver a good product. Overall, zero for four. It’s a shame how just a few people can spoil a good thing so quickly.

Pros

Employee-owned culture makes for a positive, noticeable difference in the general demeanor of employees and management. Base salaries are competitive and work/life balance was outstanding. Many roles are paid salary + straight overtime, which is a great motivator. Lots of interesting project opportunities and some very cool company projects that you can brag about with family and friends (stadiums, iconic bridges, etc.).

Cons

While the ESOP has historically performed quite well, I was disappointed in the 401k match limitations. Growth within the company is definitely political, especially when you are approaching the director and above levels. This is even more true for the mysterious, "When will I get an AVP designation," question, which is incredibly subjective.
