Half decent salary for the time you’re actually working there. Nothing else.

The owner has been churning through designers for the past 2 years. You’ll be hired on a 90 day probation period at the end of which you’re promised a permanent position, but the owner has no intention of following through on that. You have to track your time per project like a lawyer, by the minute, for billing purposes. This is the trap. All “clients” are just friends and family of the owner, she charges them for a tiny amount of labor which doesn’t equal the actual time needed for a project and isn’t enough to fill all hours of a full time position. This discrepancy is then used to justify letting you go after less than 3 months. The owner has done this numerous times and it’s the reason she no longer posts positions on job boards that allow feedback, instead directing you to apply directly on her website. She seems to like ZipRecruiter now. If I had to guess, the reason the owner is doing this is because she needs temporary staff in order to get caught up on projects she can’t finish alone, and she realized that advertising it as full time attracted better quality designers than if she advertised it as a temp position. The company only has 3 real employees- the owner, an office manager that’s on her phone all day, and a part time accountant.
