Pros

Expanded my knowledge on skillset of social media. Worked with people in a similar age range to me; made some good connections. Direct team consists of around 10 people. Flexible hours. Pay was $13/hour which I'm not sure is legal in NJ.

Cons

While I initially believed that this company was solely focused on music promotion, I made an effort to gain a clearer understanding of the actual product being sold. However, I was left grappling with the CEO's personal ideas and their vision for the company. It remained unclear whether the company creates advertisements for clients or helps secure interviews to increase exposure. The lack of transparency surrounding the core product left me puzzled, as employees were given a list of tasks without any answers to their questions or guidance. The company claims to have a mission centered around promoting music through social media. They dictate the posting of content on platforms like Facebook and TikTok for artists seeking music promotion. As an intern, your responsibilities will be limited to constructing posts using basic templates and mindlessly reposting them, stifling any room for growth or originality. Ironically, even though the company touted community and creativity, it was apparent that the CEO had a firm grasp on the direction of the company, leaving little room for input from employees. Throughout my time at HIP, I strived to express my ideas, and I was proud to see that my efforts resulted in doubling the company's engagement. However, it was disheartening to realize that only ideas that aligned with the CEO's vision were given consideration, while others were dismissed without fair evaluation. Throughout my time at HIP, I experienced a glaring absence of effective communication and leadership across the team, resulting in work being done without any cross-communication between the other employees. Therefore, if you aspire to grow professionally, earn more than a meager $13 per hour (which is easily attainable for a college intern), and engage in meaningful projects that align with Journalistic/Media/Social Media career goals, I strongly urge you to reconsider joining HIP. The structure, transparency, communication, and goals of the company at times felt like they were hindering my growth and value to the organization. P.S. Despite the position primarily involving remote work, they insist on having you come into the office every day. Ironically, on the days when I worked from home, I accomplished far more for both myself and the company. The distractions caused by upper management's unrelated conversations were counterproductive to my tasks for HIP's clients. The disengagement and lack of passion displayed by long-term employees further exemplified the flawed culture fostered by HIP.
