Pros
The work-from-home and Flex Friday programs are wonderful. There is a fitness challenge program with a provided FitBit and cash prizes. They throw fun, monthly themed parties and events. The employees/co-workers are genuinely nice people. The office layout and technology is good. Pay, benefits, and bonuses are mediocre.
Cons
They do not promote from within, and there is no career growth/development - be prepared to do the same job for 20+ years with no change. Every department is different, and the departments don't really work together much, so you could work with a group of really progressive people, or get stuck with a bunch of slow dinosaurs - like me. My department was a sinking ship - lots of turnover and financially, we were ALWAYS in the red. The leader of our department refused to make any decisions to move forward and only went after the low-hanging fruit. My boss would leave for HOURS at a time in the middle of day, and no one knew where he was. He once told me that the reason I respect deadlines so much must be because of my German heritage. I still don't know how to interpret that. He was very disruptive to workflow, rude, condescending, a terrible listener, resistant to positive change, disrespectful, sexist, defensive...I could go on, but he is the sole reason that I (and many others in my department) have left HFMA. Their performance review and goals process is so deeply flawed. EVERY YEAR, by the time my boss would finally give me my year-end performance review, it was time for my mid-year review - no exaggeration. HR also did not issue our salary raises until 4-6 months after the year-end.
