Pros

Abundant Overtime, Flexible Schedule and Team effort

Cons

Job description to complete or review tax returns on a virtual platform. Training was a 30 days, in which you had to complete 18 hours of CPE classes, take a 100 various tax question test within 90 minutes. Also, you had to pass a current tax review course. The training on thier Blockworks systems was horrible. Basically, if you had time left from taking all the courses and test, you worked imputting data in Blockworks systems. There was no training on state tax returns or resident alien, non citizen returns. You will have to self teach the various state returns and foreign returns. The manager was not in the office the first 3 months of the tax season, so all of your assistance came from Leads located in Kansas City. The leads could not see what you were working on so you had to decribe what you needed assistance via telephone. The Leads were absolutely fabulous!!!! The Blockwork systems had many flaws that detained taxpayer's returns. It was truly embarassing. Thus many customer's left. The manager was only concerned with volume and not the needs of her tax preparers. During the last month of the filing season, the manager was in our office, however, you could not ask her any questions. We still referred to the Leads in Kansas City. To insult to injury, we worked 9-11 hour days and we NEVER got a atta boy. We were always compared to other offices and how we needed to pick up production. Never mind that our office was brand new and in our 1st tax season and the other office was thier 2nd tax season and they were in the same office as the Leads. SMH!!!!

Pros

If you get in the right office you can have amazing coworkers and can learn so much. You can gain a ton of experience and knowledge if you are willing to work and collaborate with other preparers. Training is robust and is there for you to utilize and work your way up to higher salary. The potential to earn a full years salary working for half the year once trained up to a higher level and build your book of business.

Cons

Communication is often not the best and in the offseason you are off boarded or get reduced salary and only work a day or two a week
