Pros

Coworkers are generally friendly on the surface. Pay is decent for the area and job description. Advancement opportunities exist with the ability to transition to different role types.

Cons

The culture takes on the same characteristics as a cult. From the day you start all you hear about is how they employ the best people and nobody ever leaves. Rather than promoting diversity, management and staff focus on forcing employees into a hivemind culture, going beyond the work responsibilities and into general personality traits. Extremely cliquey. Pod members will have group chats thru text or office messenger and exclude other team members, so you will hear 3 people laugh and be the only person not in on the joke. High performers can be shunned and disciplined for making other teammates "feel bad" including if a person takes lunch at their desk. Faux-Silicon Valley culture. Claim to be progressive and relaxed however outside of the ability to wear jeans, they operate as an older school financial industry. All males generally have the same look and attire profile and individualism is met with resistance. Heavy resistance on WFH eventhough the industry has shifted that way. Reviews lack any substantive empirical review and are extremely vague and subjective. Comments like "you seem bored" or "struggling to engage with team" are used to justify average or below review scores when proficiency, accuracy, and standard KPIs are above expectation. Management and HR are not transparent, open, or communicative when asked for further explanation or for suggestions on improvement.

On behalf of us all at GreatAmerica, thank you for taking the time to provide your candid feedback as it relates to your experience as an employee at GreatAmerica. Team member development and promotion from within are critical aspects of our culture. At GreatAmerica, our team members are empowered to find their path. They will also find support from their leaders as they make a transition to a different role; one that might help them optimize their skills and bring them fulfillment. As a member of our Human Resources Team in Talent Acquisition, I am deeply sorry to hear that your experience was not favorable. It’s true, the culture here at GreatAmerica is unique. GreatAmerica was founded in 1992 and some of the original employees are still with GreatAmerica today. We have many tenured team members throughout the organization. Personally, I’ve been with the company since 2004 and have chosen to stay because of the culture, the opportunity to grow personally and professionally, and because of the strong relationships I’ve built here. With GreatAmerica’s team-based environment we find that we are better together. During the last year and a half, we have had the opportunity to learn new ways of doing business remotely. As such, we have leveraged tools and technology to help us stay connected and facilitate collaboration. We are still learning about what works best to support our customers from a team-member flexibly standpoint. The experience we deliver to our customers will remain top of mind as we explore longer term flexibility options which meet the needs of our team members. Thank you for this feedback, we truly appreciate it. As a result, it will be shared with the appropriate parties and taken into consideration as we evaluate the ways in which we can improve in each of the areas you have highlighted. While we promise this action, we would encourage you reach out to us at applicant@greatamerica.com to more fully address your individual concerns or if you would like to provide additional feedback. Thank you for your time and the contributions you made while at GreatAmerica!
