Pros
I loved the job I performed, it was what felt like a first step on a new career path. I loved my team members and worked well with them. The job was stimulating and kept me interested and focused day by day. I liked working with the users and assisting them, and they seemed to genuinely appreciate my assistance. There were also great paid time off benefits and insurance/401k benfits.
Cons
This being of little fault of GovCIO to start, I was denied security clearence for the position due to a small white lie about drug use and a misunderstanding of the law. (I did not know that if I admitted to drug use I would not be fined or charged criminally, which was what I was the most afraid of) Despite having, as I believed, cleared up this misunderstanding with a government agent, I was forceibly and suddenly removed from the position after working there for nearly five months and showing i could reliably do the job. The security clearence would have been for admin rights to the system, which honestly was not needed to do 95% of the job I was doing. I was allowed to perform a job for five months before being deemed unsuitable. All because I would go into another state to buy Marijuana where it was legal and then bring it back into my home state to use it in the privacy of my own home, and becuase i was not forthcoming about that detail becuase I feared being fined or charged criminally. I attempted to appeal this decision, following chains of emails that led me to appropriate contact points, but was told twice that it was not possible and then subsequently outright ignored by the government itself. GovCIO itself was also of no help. Their original memo states that someone would assist me in finding new employment, but this "assistance" amounted to being told to go onto their careers website and apply for open positions listed there, almost all of which required degrees or years of experiance beyond what I had, or across the United States, and/or for high leadership positions I was not qualified for. There was absolutely no other effort given. In short, great job, great team, but hope ya never have to deal with the people higher up who view you as just a name on paper.
