Pros
Mission is incredible with genuine interest and engagement Staff is all women Offers a lot of experiences in work because the staff is so small (10) - the freedom in work is because there aren't any detailed plans for roles to grow and evolve. You will complete extra work to fill in the gaps, not because of trust. Junior level staff members are innovative and kind - they are the reason why the reviews about internships are so positive
Cons
Organization does not have structure for growth past 1.5-2 years for employees High turnover Senior staff does not communicate as a team, which overflows into office culture of not communicating No professional development opportunities - often micromanaged instead Lack of transparency (only senior staff meets board members, zero knowledge of budget, no explanation for internal organizational decisions, no history of full staff meetings) There isn't capacity for an HR department. Development/Operations/Finances/HR are combined into 1 role which is not balanced or helpful Health insurance is not covered Gaslighting is a tactic used by leadership Protocols are determined by personal interests and not for growth of organization or feedback of staff Everything is urgent and the sense of urgency creates a culture that promotes working extra hours and unfair work/life balance Comp time exists but employees do not have a choice of when they use comp time and it only exists for certain events chosen without input from staff Discrepancy between senior and junior staff salaries is very discouraging
