Pros
Gensler has awesome culture, smart people, and tons of opportunities for career growth. It's a great place to start your career, change careers, or make a late-career move to a new place. I love how intergenerational and diverse our people are. It's not uncommon to meet folks who have worked at Gensler for 20-30+ years. Our global presence gives us connections to markets and colleagues all over the world. Our research is unparalleled in the industry. Our commitment to setting measurable DEI goals and publishing our progress sets an example not only for our industry but across industries. It feels like there's something for everyone, and there's a structure in place to help people find the place(s) they can best contribute and thrive for many years.
Cons
There's a hyper-focus on being billable. I can't stand that sick leave comes out of PTO, because it encourages people to work while sick. Recently people are experiencing significant friction around how much presence we are expected to have in our offices post-pandemic. In my experience these things, or perhaps more accurately a lack of clarity around them, create a lot of anxiety and misalign with the company's stated values. Sometimes the size of the company makes it easy to feel kind of lost in the crowd, especially at a larger location. That said, the resources and impact we have as a large company are really amazing. There's always room for improvement, and I consistently see leaders trying to improve what they can.
