Pros
I love how kind and positive my coworkers are. Once you start working here, you start feeling like you belong.
Also, since the main value of the lab is that patient care is the most important thing and they have a generous program for free testing for marginalized groups, I feel really motivated at work and I am grateful to work for a company where I feel like my job is part of the process that often gives cancer patients hope for better treatment and better survival odds.
It is also inspiring to see how hard your colleagues work and how dedicated they are and how much they care about about the patients whose samples we receive.
The management style is really smart. Even though they rarely happen, mistakes are not met with anger, but with changes to protocol to minimize the risk of those errors.
The company is rapidly growing, so you know that you have job security as long as you are hard-working. They are also constantly adding additional staff to avoid making people feel overwhelmed or overworked.
Lastly, the benefits are amazing (amazing health insurance choices, option to get a flex card, dental, vision, and other stuff including a low cost lawyer service) and really generous PTO.
Cons
The company is rapidly growing, it's growing maybe a bit too fast at times, so once in a while, there are hectic days. Personally, I don't mind it much, because I love it when a lot of things are happening and I have to switch focus from one task to another, but I could see how other may not enjoy it.
Because the company is rapidly growing, sometimes I feel bad to take more than one day off at a time, especially during a particularly busy month, because then my work will be added to someone else's plate and I do not want to stress my colleagues. So I generally choose to try to take only one day of PTO when I need it during a busy month. Just to clarify, this is my personal choice and management is perfectly fine with people taking multiple days off, as long as you tell them in advance. And many of my colleagues have taken a week or two off with no issues from anyone.
