Pros
- Supportive upper-level management. They made it clear from Day 1 that they want me to be a successful professional and they have been true to their word. They offer TONS of professional development opportunities and I feel that my supervisors have my best interest in mind. - My position is essentially "academic advisor" but I provide more than just advisement to students. I love that I get to learn about and provide to students services such as financial aid counseling, registration, student life, etc. I'm even involved in building operations. It is a great position in that I get to wear a lot of hats. - "Family" atmosphere. It truly is a very welcoming, positive environment at GCC. I feel like I can be myself at work and that there is very little competition. - Genuine care for students. So far the majority of colleagues I have encountered are very invested in their students and passionate about providing excellent service.
Cons
I absolutely LOVE my job. The only thing that could improve would be salary. Even with a master's degree I make less than $40k a year. However, I would rather work in a great environment and be happy than make more money in a negative environment. So for me, it's worth it.
