Pros

I interned with Generation180 on the Solar Schools team for about 5 months and loved the experience! It's an awesome, modern office right on the Downtown Mall of Charlottesville with tons of great lunch spots within walking distance. Values of teamwork and positive outlook are reflected in how all the employees get along so well. I felt like everyone really wanted to get to know me, even though I wasn't going to be a permanent member of the team. Gen180 has great relations with the Charlottesville community and with other environmental organizations in town. The work is really meaningful and often linked to concrete changes you can observe in the city. Overall, a great place to work with a wonderful team.

Cons

There are so many worthy causes to fight for, but never enough time for all of them! Gen180 deals with a problem that I think many non-profits deal with: not enough staff and time for all the great things to be working on.

Pros

Everyone who works here is passionate about doing excellent work and it makes it a pleasure to collaborate. It's a laid back and fun atmosphere with plenty of social events and office perks (office dogs!) but it still feels dynamic and exciting to tackle the problems that Generation180 is tackling. I feel like I'm making a real difference.

Cons

As with all small organizations without 100s of team members, there isn't a super defined path for job promotions. Though they still do regular pay raises (more than just cost of living) and highly encourage professional development (covered by Gen180).

Pros

The small scale of this working environment allows for many personal relationships and a true sense of comradery during the work day. There is an honest sense of working towards a common goal that motivates the outstanding environmental work that this non-profit does. Their office is situated right on the downtown mall with easy access to many restaurants, making it easy to have meetings and social gatherings with the team outside of the office setting. I have loved working for Generation 180, as I have learned so much about clean energy from my time here and they have demonstrated how dynamic and flexible a workplace can and should be.

Cons

This workplace is on the smaller scale, which I happen to enjoy, but this can be seen as a con if you enjoy working for really large companies.
