Good learning experience but not worth it - Clinical Assistant Generation Next Fertility Employee Review

Pros

TLDR - A strong learning experience for pre-health students, but it's not worth it unless you have no responsibilities outside of work. Rotational structure allows exposure to different areas of the clinic (reception, assisting ultrasounds/bloodwork, finance/insurance benefits, working on a doctor's team to correspond with patients about their cycles, medication teaching, OR/recovery, ...), but it can be difficult to get rotated. Some rotations allow overtime pay, others are more strict. Some coworkers are wonderful and become your friends, but others can be really difficult to work with. Flexible with time off for interviews and MCAT leave (though this isn't as much of a benefit as it seems considering the stress and exhaustion from the job). Free snacks and beverages in the staff kitchen and lunch is provided on Saturdays. Rotational (every other) weekends and holidays are not that bad.

Cons

TLDR - Extremely toxic work environment. Look for another gap year job. The clinic's rotational structure allows for a lot of exposure, but it's a poor structure that takes advantage of CAs eager to be involved and learn. The CAs are responsible for almost every aspect of the clinic and you can't pick which rotation you're on. The idea is for each CA to get rotated to every part of the clinic, but some CAs get stuck and never rotate. Work hours are mentally exhausting and stressful. It's difficult to balance activities and responsibilities outside of work. The on-call shift is stressful and not ideal. There's favoritism from the doctors and practice manager and a lot of blame instead of accountability. The doctors overbook their schedules and there are gaps in patient care. The amount of responsibility the CAs have is incredibly overwhelming. All training is provided by more senior CAs and some are eager to teach but others can be very unwilling to help. Many CAs are unhappy with the job and work environment. High turnover is expected since most CAs are working during their gap years, but lots of people have left early due to the toxic environment. The clinic is understaffed, which creates more work for every CA.

Pros

They don’t have a serious attendance policy (yet). Take as many mental health days as you want. You will surely need them.

Cons

I’m not sure where to start. The culture here is extremely toxic and piggybacky. Micromanaging even the simplest of tasks, for no reason. Fake title bumps for no reason. The environment the founders create in order to get their employees to get on their hands and knees for them is insane. It’s even more insane watching your colleagues fall for it and constantly bend over backwards even at the most ridiculous and unfair requests, just to cry and complain about it later. I did not meet anyone that was truly happy working here. It is also a revolving door, people constantly being fired at random, being constantly upping and quitting at random as well. Toxic toxic toxic toxic toxic no pro’s, all cons
