Pros
Freedom in work, technically challenging, plenty of opportunities to seize - but you need to do it yourself and try to avoid asking permission (or someone will try to kill your good idea). Fun colleagues.
Cons
Suffers from engineering 'in-breeding' and senior technical staff has tunnel vision when it comes to adopting new methods and technologies (i.e. doesn't like change). Glass ceiling for promotions and 'trial' periods for internal promotions are never ending. Vision is on short term ROI and leads to poor technical decisions, and sometimes poor business decisions.
