Cons

This company demonstrates a low level of trust in its employees. Computer activity is closely monitored, and even brief periods of inactivity during office hours may lead to being questioned. Productivity is largely measured by “active hours", which fosters a culture where long overtime hours are implicitly rewarded. As a result, employees who adhere strictly to standard working hours, especially when their teams regularly work overtime, may be perceived as less productive, which can negatively impact performance reviews. High turnover is a recurring issue. The company hires frequently, but this is largely offset by frequent terminations. Each quarter, employees with the lowest measured productivity or performance are let go, including both long tenured staff and new hires. Performance evaluations often fail to adequately account for external dependencies. For instance, if your work relies on Product or Engineering teams that lack the capacity or willingness to prioritize your projects, your output will inevitably be affected. This leads to intense internal competition for limited resources, where teams that secure support are labeled as high performing, while those that do not are penalized for factors beyond their control. Work life balance is another significant concern. Employees should expect meetings and calls outside of standard working hours, including evenings and weekends. Management frames this expectation as a trade off for remote work flexibility, with the assumption that employees remain available almost around the clock, regardless of personal commitments. This approach is driven top down, and it is not uncommon for leadership to schedule mandatory meetings during weekends or late evenings. Compensation is also an area of concern. There is no guaranteed or minimum bonus, and any discretionary bonus offered can be withdrawn at any time. Overall, compensation packages tend to be on the lower end compared to industry standards. Lastly, despite the company’s frequent claims of wanting to succeed internationally, the working culture remains heavily rooted in a traditional Chinese environment. Meetings, presentations, and day to day communication are predominantly conducted in Chinese. If you do not speak or type Chinese, collaboration can be very challenging, as most core teams operate primarily in Chinese. English is used only occasionally when non Chinese colleagues are present, and even then, its use is minimal.
