Pros

- benefits are good/competitive - 10 hours/month of PTO - company events are fun - free snacks and drinks in the kitchen

Cons

- They're going through "restructuring" right now which makes sense since they just got a new CFO so they're firing a bunch of people and trying to hire "cheaper" labor force like interns and staff 1s to do the heavy lifting. My co-worker got laid off out of nowhere. I'm afraid to come into work. You never know if that's gonna be your last day. - There is a perception that people who end up at Gallina are there because they are not good enough for Big 4. - A lot of cliques. So if you don't belong to one, tough. - Try to get into "The Mahoney pool". You'll know what it means once you start. - Leaving work on time is frowned upon. If your supervisor or manager is in the office till 8 pm, you should be there as well. I don't get why. They're paid twice as much as staff. They strongly believe that if you chose the career in public accounting, you should be working 50-60 hours a week. No work - life balance. Well...actually, some audit managers love to travel because that gives them a chance to get away from needy wives and kids for a few days. Go figure. - If you're an auditor, you'll still be drafted to do tax. If you're a tax preparer, you'll be drafted to do audits. They don't really care what you want to do.

Gallina Response

Thank you for writing an honest review of your experience at GALLINA LLP. We strive to ensure every team member has an enjoyable experience with the Firm and our management team fully considers each review. We value each of our employees and understand your concerns. We encourage all employees, staff through partner, to build relationship through team building events, company social events and other company-hosted gatherings held throughout the year. We also understand that everyone values a good work-life balance. With our Firm, and most other public accounting firms, employees are expected to work extra hours during busy season and other peak times of the year. Overtime and occasional travel may be needed when large projects are due, which is a common expectation in this industry. We would never ask employees to work 50-60 hours per week, every week of the year. GALLINA employees travel 15% less per year than other Firms, on average. The Firm has experienced some turnover of key positions. This turnover was voluntary and as a result of retirements, as in the case with our CFO. The Firm is committed to quality personnel and delivering timely feedback to ensure performance is evaluated on an ongoing basis. The Firm does not terminate without just cause and proper warning including a performance plan to ensure employees are provided with a roadmap for success. Open communication is key. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to speak to HR or your performance manager about any questions and concerns you have.
