Pros

The mission matters to everyone on the team. We are solving real problems for real users and helping them achieve their dreams. It's inspiring how every single person at Fundera takes this to heart. The CEO and the leadership team lead by example. They do a great job of leading and motivating the team. It's really fun to see how the long-term vision is happening, slowly but surely. Each one of the leaders brings a unique perspective to the table and their bond and relationship are a great example for the team. The product vision and roadmap is strong. We do a really good job of figuring out what we can test and build, and how those things get us closer towards our goals. There are tons of interesting problems to solve, and everyone is empowered to run at them, try things, fail, iterate, learn, and grow along the way. The team is full of smart, talented, and kind people. Everyone goes out of their way to help each other and collaborate. Everyone is an expert at what they do and passionate about it.

Cons

Despite being in the tech space, the company still has a strong bias towards sales process. If we're going to grow up as a product organization, we need to be honest about what influence it should have over the product. Keeping the status quo just to avoid change is no longer good enough. Benefits and perks are very 'meh' for the startup space. It feels like we haven't really grown out of the scrappy mentality there.

Pros

NerdWallet is a great brand with a cool office in a great location, and peers with whom I'll be friends for life. Holidays are also plentiful. Unfortunately, the company has lost its way. Fundera has experienced extreme employee turnover, resulting in constant staff changes. This exodus included knowledgeable managers, long-tenured reps, and support staff who were instrumental, like in SBA and training. The good snacks and lunches and an occasional ice cream truck gimmick don't make up for it.

Cons

The sales environment is built on a counterproductive "churn and burn" philosophy that focuses on activity metrics over revenue results. This approach systematically forces out efficient reps who exceed their sales quotas but not their call quotas. The constant cycle of replacing them with new hires who inevitably fail prevents sustainable growth and creates a dysfunctional work environment, indicating a fundamental misunderstanding by leadership about what drives success. Overall, the business strategy in sales, lender partnerships, and hiring suggests a business that has lost its way.
