Super low pay, nothing great to set them apart - Digital Marketing Specialist FriesenPress Employee Review

Pros

Some great people work here. It's not very stressful work.

Cons

The pay is so low. Leadership can be cagey and without high moral standards. Profit-driven, naturally. If half the staff is against publishing something but it can sell, they have gone ahead. And the people they hire aren't always super skilled. Authors will be matched with someone whose skill level is better than their own, but nothing rivalling an editor with a proper publisher or something. CEO has favourites. Big office politics environment.

Pros

Mgmt focused on growth, relatively young and aggresicvely seek new business. Understand they need to evolve with current trnds to stay relevant and profitable.

Cons

Micromanagement, sometimes unrealistic about types of customers they go after, very long sales cycles. Canada is cold but the beer is good

Thanks for your feedback. Great relevant comments for 2014. We have grown a lot since then. It says you were a contractor, so I am very glad you have posted as we sometimes don't share this aspect of our business enough. We employee close to 100 worldwide freelance contractors on a part time basis. We look for editors, illustrators, indexers, data entry clerks etc. We often see staff leave the full time office environment here and stay on part time as freelancers as they pursue others passions like school etc.
