Pros

Excellent pay and benefits for both union and non-union (management) employees.

Cons

Grocery retail has become a volatile industry. Innovation, new competition (Amazon/ Lidl/ Aldi) and the widening range of customers needs has narrowed the profit margin to mere pennies. Employees are pushed to their limits on a daily basis. There is no time or money for comprehensive training so the company is pouring personnel into the management meat grinder to see who comes out the other side. Extremely low morale and no job security. Clicklist, driverless delivery, and stores with no personnel (Amazon in Seattle has a store with no checkers) beg the question: what will the grocery industry be in 20 years? 10 years? Even 5 years? Not recommended for people looking for a career, highly recommended for people looking for a job.

Pros

If you have good relationship with your manager and you can trust them to have your back, it is an amazing place to work, and you will find success easy.

Cons

If you have lost the confidence of your manager, or have bad communication with your manager, it makes it very hard to be seen and be successful.

Pros

Job can be fun and interesting Always something new to learn Lots of personal fulfillment as a manager when things go right

Cons

Unsupportive upper management Toxic work culture, unpaid overtime is rewarded and even expected or forced, even to the tune of multiple weeks in a row with no days off when you are salaried. They claim to support work life balance but even the smallest effort to set boundaries is heavily punished. Not paid as much as we should be for everything we have to do and deal with
