Pros

Treated as part of the family. Growing company with a small company vibe.

Cons

Growing pains at times, but better than the competition.

Pros

This company deals with a wide range of commercial projects within California. Most of them are design-build, design-assist, spec build projects within the Mechanical and Plumbing scope. Thus, these projects are very great opportunity for people if they are serious about construction. They are very good at what they do, and very good at helping all the employee grow. This is definitely a company that I recommend people joining.

Cons

There could be a bit of a learning curve at first when getting into this company if you have limited background at what they do. But they will provide a lot of opportunity and resources to help you get to where you need to be.

Pros

Most of the people here are genuinely friendly. They care about what you do outside of work and make you feel good when you're there. Company provides competitive pay (if you ask for it). They pay into an employee stock program that is very healthy and the outlook of the company (financially) is extremely strong. The company has many long time employees that have been there for 20+ years. If you want to work for a company for a long time, FMB should be the #1 choice. They will retire you with a very sturdy compensation package,

Cons

Will ask you to travel a lot. I was hired to work out of the S. San Francisco office so I moved to be closer to location, only to be stationed in Monterey for about two months. I was fully expected to make the 4.5 hour round trip (most days) with no additional compensation / benefits. For reference, that means leaving the house at 4:45. There is no training for new employees. You're just expected to jump in and learn as you go. There is almost no other organization *that I know of* that provides little to no training like this. If your background isn't in construction, it becomes extremely difficult to ask the right questions and I often found myself not knowing what I didn't know. The company holds educational seminars that cover topics at a high level but isn't effective at bringing new employees up to speed. Staying awake at these events is a running joke within the company. In 2024 when everyone is redefining how work is done, FMB is standing firmly, and standing proud, in the old days. There is no hybrid work structure, computers and IT as a whole is sub-par, and business processes are old. In general, this is a three generation company and it shows its age frequently. TLDR: My experience with the company wasn't the best BUT that was unique to me. If you want a company to stay at for a long time, FMB is for you. If you absolutely love construction and want to work on cool projects, this is the place. If you're young, looking to start your career and want to expand your skill set to position yourself for the future, FMB is NOT for you.
