Pros

Employee discount is nice Flexible work schedule

Cons

The leadership structure is awful - the only motive to get things done is fear of a nasty phone call from corporate or a visit from Robinson himself. The work environment is very nepotist. You need to be best pals with the store manager in order to move up, as a result, many of the shift managers are incompetent and power-hungry. You're not allowed to sit during your shift and are required to take a mandatory unpaid 30-minute break. Just another way you get cheated out of your time and dignity. Pay is uncompetitive and there are no commissions. However, there are sales promotions called "spiffs" that function like commissions and encourage you to push a specific product on customers. You feel bad for recommending inferior products but the pay is so mediocre is almost necessary. You also get a 'bonus' for selling useless placebo-effect footbeds. You are expected to use all of the nonsensical equipment in the store like the treadmill, a gait scanner, and a running track in order to convince poor customers they need a $200 shoe with an $80 insole. An overall toxic business practice that expresses no shame in using employees as a conduit for deceiving customers. Likewise, the company mandates you learn useless product jargon, and must relearn it every time a new model of product comes in. They have corporate slogans plastered everywhere like "SWAT" to encourage better salesmanship. In reality, it only gives something for the manager to knock you off on and causes the salespeople to be sleazy with customers to squeeze out sales. The amount of product knowledge you are expected to learn in your 2-week training period is unjustifiable for the amount of money you are earning. There are weekly sales expectations you are expected to hit. You are expected to upsell your customer constantly, pushing useless merchandise on them in pursuit of meaningless performance figures. Business is slow, traffic is never high enough to hit any of these target figures. Employees fight with each other for customers.
