Pros
The Federal Aid Division Office: - Unit cohesiveness - Pay covered by GOE vice project billable hours - Opportunity to liaise with industry, state and other federal agencies - 80% Desk job, 20% field - Continuing Professional Education - 5% Thrift Savings Plan Matching - FERS can be withdrawn and accrues interest
Cons
- FHWA HQ Leadership has own agenda and is slow to communicate/take action - Director of Field Services is redundant and slows process - Federal Employee Retirement System is 4.4%+ and participation can only be waived during initial Federal hiring/onboarding (HR neglects to inform new hire) - Have to move if seeking promotion, similar to military, except your move is taxed.
