Pros
This is a really, really special place to work which is somewhat more self-aware than other DC nonprofits: after a rocky period, there has been comprehensive focus on rebuilding staff trust, creating effective policies that protect workers instead of protecting dysfunctional mgmt, respecting the expertise and the time of all staff members / on all levels. It is a very collaborative and very diverse office, filled with agreeable, competent people. An exciting place to be. Also great benefits.
Cons
Org is at risk of perpetuating some of the former dysfunction due to some mgmt staff still not having this self-awareness (mentioned above). In those cases, it feels very top-down but also unaware how to create grounded systems that get the best work out of staff....so rather than come across as competent they are at risk of appearing unprofessional and hypocritical: taking others to task for problems that supervisor may have actually contributed to. Supervisors have control over creating a really healthy and effective workforce! So if they feel victimized instead that's probably a clue that they may be contributing to the problem.
