Pros

+Live and evangelize a positive work culture that most companies have just left on mission statement board somewhere. +Work Life Balance at all field operational levels. +A business who listens to and responds to the front line employees. +Pay is fair in my experience. +Job is fun. Yes storage is fun. +Your input is required. Yes your opinion matters and be ready to share it. +Highest standards in the storage industry. Our product is superior. +ESS has embraced technology that Blockbuster could have only dreamed of. +Company is genuinely striving to improve all of its processes and attempting to avoid complacency. Never have I encountered a company that sent my son a gift card for Christmas because his Dad worked hard and I couldn't do that without his support. Mind blown. The values and ethics of this organization are above reproach in my experience thus far. If there are 10 companies in all of retail who treat employees with the respect and appreciation Extra Space does, I might call you a fibber. Over 3000 employees, almost 1400 locations and market cap into the billions. Would make you think its a giant Machine who chews employees souls to generate profit. Not at Extra Space. I drank the "Kool-Aid" and it's good. Better yet it is real. Come join me and find out. We need good people like you to take our next steps into a bright wasabi green future.

Cons

-I wished I had discovered this industry, and specifically this organization a long time ago. That's it. Anything else that I may not be find completely to my liking is really superfluous and would be me reaching to find something that is displeasing. When you are treated well, what can be that bad?

Pros

Solid schedule - 40 hours per week, not expected to be there more than that. No one looking over your shoulder constantly (unless you have a new DM, they can't seem to help it) Mostly great people to work with Local, immediate management does care and are helpful.

Cons

Very large rate increases really upset customers and that's just too bad. We are given word to tell them but it just isn't true. Putting more money in stock holder's pockets is the bottom line and it doesn't matter how much anger we have to deal with. You are absolutely expected to sell insurance to every renter. However, you must be careful because you aren't "insurance salesmen". You get a ding when you don't sell it. We are encouraged to use evasive language and rush through it so the renter thinks it's required without quite saying so. You would think this large of a corporation would have handymen available but it is so, so difficult to get the smallest repair done due to getting bids from vendors, turning them in, reminding the person you turned them in to what needs done maybe getting approval, then scheduling. By that time lights (or whatever) have been out for a month or 2. Benefits are very expensive and cover so little.
