Pros
By far the biggest pro is the attitude towards hybrid and flexible work. This allowed me to do my work from home whenever I wanted, during the hours that I wanted, without constant hawking from management. There's a culture of emphasising results over performative gestures or presenteeism though this has mixed effectiveness.
Cons
It's difficult to affect change at Experian. If you really care about your job, doing things as best as you can, innovating and improving existing systems, you will suffer here. Experian is extremely risk averse when it comes to technology adoption, so their tech stack is several years out of data and simply not fit for purpose. There's far too much bureaucracy and layers of people who seemingly exist mostly to say no and maintain the status quo. To that extent, it's frustrating hearing executives talk about transforming the culture to be high performing, dynamic, fast paced etc while not addressing the systemic issues that are holding people back. The culture isn't always as collaborative as it should be - there's definitely pushback when trying to get other teams to implement changes/improvements as most people are content with maintaining status quo so long as it makes their life easier. Pay is far below market rate and progression opportunities are limited and completely depend on the team you started off at. I've seen some colleagues in other parts of the business rocket off while other excellent colleagues are fighting tooth and nail just to progress at a snail's pace. Management don't seem concerned about this or retaining their top talent and are extremely rigid in retaining their standardised job structure, even when it's clear that it's not working for teams or individuals. Experian claim to be all about data superiority, but in my experience when push comes to shove there is immense pressure to hit financial targets instead of getting fundamentals right and creating truly best-in-class products. To that end, there has been very significant redundancies in the past few years as more and more roles get offshored - compromising quality and culture even further. Upper management in my BU inspired little to no confidence - consistently failing to hit targets, not taking accountability and deflecting blame.
