Decent Company, TERRIBLE Pay - Certified Flight Instructor Epic Flight Academy Employee Review

Pros

The middle management in the flight department is pretty decent. Good people to work with for the most part! New airplanes. Cool sims when they aren’t broken. Great group of instructors who truly care about their students and go out of their way to help each other!

Cons

The pay is absolutely terrible as a flight instructor here. This place used to be the best paying in our area. Now it's unquestionably the worst, and epic is taking advantage of the fact that pilots need flight hours to progress in their career, in order to get nearly free labor from their largest workforce. We generate the majority of the income for this company, sweat our butts off in hot Cessnas all day long and hustle to provide good service for our students.... Yet get paid worse than the cashier at your local fast food chain. Cost of living has skyrocketed here in the last two years and yet we get paid worse than ever. If you want to work here, plan on living in a shanty by the railroad tracks, borrowing money from your family, taking on more debt, or all of the above. The ‘new’ CFO has turned a once great 'family' business into a numbers game that exists to take advantage of flight instructors and foreign students with deep pockets. Potential flight instructors take note: In 2023 students pay just shy of $100/hr for YOUR instruction and epic pays you $15/hr out of that. If you don’t want to be homeless look elsewhere. No it won’t get better, no you don’t get regular raises. I hope you like ramen, because your choices are chicken, beef or shrimp.
