Pros
This is a stepping stone opportunity to learn and master basic accounting skill sets. Small company environment allows for exposure to skills and task experience beyond the scope of the position’s title and traditional expectations.
Cons
Other departments have enough employees to support the workload assigned, however, the accountant will be expected to be a one person show and subject matter expert for finance and accounting. Firm and leadership does not provide avenues for true career growth and advancement for accounting. There is no CFO, VP, or controller. The company accountant will need to fill the duties of these jobs to a certain degree with the downside of being paid below the actual level of responsibility.
