Cons
My experience working at Encompass Health was deeply disappointing and unsustainable. Workload & Staffing: Excessive workloads were normalized, with frequent pressure to stay late or cover staffing shortages without additional compensation. Chronic understaffing was common, driven by constant turnover—multiple staff resigned every few months—which further increased workload for remaining employees. Compensation: Salary was significantly below market value. Compensation was approximately $15,000–$25,000 less than comparable entry-level PT positions, with annual raises averaging only $1,000, even with strong performance. Pay did not reflect workload, productivity expectations, or professional responsibility. Leadership & Culture: Management culture was cliquey and gossipy, creating a toxic work environment. My direct interactions with the Director of Rehabilitation consistently felt intimidating, dismissive, and verbally inappropriate, contributing to a hostile atmosphere. I never felt supported, and her communication style approached harassment to the point that I considered involving HR. Overall: This role left me feeling undervalued and unsupported. The combination of low pay, poor leadership, high turnover, and unrealistic workload expectations made this an unhealthy work environment. I strongly encourage prospective employees to carefully evaluate workload expectations, leadership style, compensation, and staff retention before accepting a position here.
