Best Company for Sales, But Still Really Rough - Sales Representative EcoShield Pest Solutions Employee Review

Pros

They offer better compensation than just about any company in summer sales, and they do a really good job of trying to incentivise sales reps. They are not trying to take advantage of anyone.

Cons

You won't make as much as you think. You won't make $50,000 or $30,000 or $20,000. A great first summer is $15,000. A great summer. And it will be hard. Insanely hard, both on your body and your emotions. Like they say, attitude is 30% of the job, hard work is another 30%, but 40% of the job is factors you cannot control. A hard winter the year before, late snows, sudden emergence of other pest control companies dressing exactly the same way and offering service at half the price, or even just a tepid manager. If you're considering the job, remember that the people recruiting you are going to present the best possible scenario--the most amazing summer you might have. They aren't trying to take advantage of you--and they really do want you to have that great, lucrative summer, but they'll probably make a lot of money off the work you do, whether you stick it out to the end or not. Also, beware the office staff. EcoShield is great to their sales reps and pretty good to their techs, but the office staff can be a mess (depending on your city). The first time you lose a sale because the office staff yelled at your customer, you'll be very unhappy. Will I be back? Maybe. Probably not, though I did appreciate my experience. If I sell, it will be with EcoShield, but I think I want something less uncertain next summer.

Pros

Decent bonus structure, work itself isn't bad at all, get to be outdoors and mostly alone

Cons

Management is weak and arrogant, they actively discourage long-term workers, often have minimal oversight on routing and customer interaction which makes customers frustrated. Door knockers are obnoxious, sales & corporate are pompous, force employees to watch an in-house "podcast" where hyper-wealthy people brag for an hour. Impossible to unionize unlike most other trades.
