Pros
The system is fairly easy to orient to, and the schedule is as flexible as you need it to be. When teachers leave adequate lesson information, the process is very smooth, and painless. Starting out, I tried many different schools and established a rapport with the administration so that once I discovered which schools I'd like to frequent, I was already on their priority list. Get to know the teachers and you'll always have the best support system when you arrive to work.
Cons
Unfortunately, many teachers will not leave great instruction. With the exception to those who request subs due to sudden emergencies, there are teachers who leave vague instructions and, in some cases, no instruction at all. Also, due to the fear of requirements by the ACA, EBR restricted substitute hours to 29/wk to avoid offering health insurance. I'm not sure if that was even necessary since many subs do not work the available 40 each week anyway, but this pay cut was not necessary, in my opinion.
