Pros
- Most of the staff are pleasant - The work is easy - Some damaged books and merchandise are free to take - it's physical work (a pro depending on your disposition toward a sedentary lifestyle) - It's a household-name brand (if you like the status that comes with that)
Cons
- There is no opportunity for career progression in most of the roles - We're made to feel dispensable by the direct report and other managers don't have any incentive to care about us. - Warehouse workers aren't seen as equals among the customer facing staff - There are no opportunities to learn new skills. - The work atmosphere is depressing; no work place banter, only work related talk is allowed, no music, no earphones, - Serious suggestions for improving the processes and organisation of the warehouse have been met with nonchalance - The warehouse staff is made up mostly of men and management is also male dominated. - Misogyny has been met with nonchalance - The dress code is all black with long pants even in summer on 40°C+ days - Break rooms/staff spaces are an after thought - Casual employees have been told that work must come before anything else and therefore must accept all work offered - Hires externally without offering roles to current employees - There is no variety in the work - Work is menial at best
