Pros

DoveLewis has a great history and reputation as a nonprofit. The medical staff truly are top-notch, talented and dedicated. The standard of care animals receive is amazing. The community programs and events DoveLewis puts together are well organized and supported. The organization attracts good people and in my time there I made plenty of great connections.

Cons

The turnover is horrendous. There no other way to put it. I was there less than a year and saw more people leave DoveLewis than at my previous employer where I worked for over three years! There is constant restructuring in the business and programs side of the building, firings are common, and good people quit... often. It felt very abnormal but I loved my job and therefore ignored the warning signs. There are a lot of cliques and frankly unprofessional relationships involving management and their favored staff members. It was a big turn-off. In contrast to my previous job (before DoveLewis) there were hardly any all-staff or even half-staff meetings (I do recognize the hospital environment makes it hard to pull this together) and there was never an anonymous employee survey sent out by HR. The kicker is that I was let go with zero warning. Totally blindsided. This sort of behavior goes against everything management professes to stand for.

So many caring employees and community programs like Blood Bank and Strays & Wildlife

Cons

Parking can be difficult. Work can be emotionally draining because of scared or upset customers.

Education and quality on floor staff- that’s literally it

Cons

Management is a joke. One person in particular is allowed to do whatever they please and will never have to take accountability. For way too many years, she has continued to fire or write up people who question her or try to stand up for themselves. MULTIPLE employees have built cases against her with EVIDENCE and have presenting it to management- immediately leading to excuses for this manager and somehow a write up or termination for the employee. Fired someone who had a health issue that caused them to be five minutes late sometimes, fired someone who had a doctors note for experiencing an emergency on the ER floor and needing to leave, fired someone for calling out on a snow day when they felt unsafe (about 15 other people called out, no one else got fired), prevents growth for people who does kiss up to her. This place is a joke
