Pros

I would not wish my job on my worst enemy. Day by day, this company will suck out a your love for life, and replace it will bitterness. A permanent dark cloud.

Cons

The big wigs in Tennessee sent out an email asking all of the employees to post positive responses on Glassdoor and LinkedIn to change the public's perception on working for DG. I saw on LinkedIn where DG is the 4th worst company to work for. I agree with that. Are you kidding me? If you have to make that kind of request then you know your company has issues. I am a DM with absolutely no work life balance. I am expected to work 24-7 if need be to accomplish the impossible. I work for a workaholic who never takes time off and who expects the same for his DMs who he treats as underlings. I am talked to like a first grader on a regular basis. I am also required to demand store manager's to complete the impossible as well. They're expected to perform a workload of tasks, and are given the labor to accomplish about 75%. Corporate sends emails out instructing DMs to cut payroll from stores and SMs are still required to complete the same list of tasks. The training program for SMs is a total joke. And due to a law suit lost, hands are tied very tight on salary. I am a DM and I am expected to improve store conditions, but I am not given the tools for success. And neither are the SMs, who are put in stores with impacted stockrooms, horrible store conditions, and are also expected to work 70-80 hours a week to fix and maintain store standards. I had a car drive through one of my stores and I along with the store staff were expected to clean it up. My RD said we could not afford to lose sales in my district. I've been in retail for 25+ years and DG could not pay me enough to work as a SM. My heart goes out to the store teams. We ask them for the impossible everyday.

Pros

You have an opportunity to create good good relationships with your customers.

Cons

There is no work life balance. If you’re a store manager you’re expected to be there 24/7 if necessary. You’re also salary, so you’re paid for a flat 40 hours but required to schedule yourself for a minimum of 48 hours. No holiday pay, no overtime. You have access to two types of bonuses but they’re IF you qualify for them. You get little to no support from upper management and constantly told you’re not doing enough. They don’t care if you’re having staffing issues and still expect you to get the truck completely worked in 2 days and the store to be 100% recovered daily, even if you’re alone. Then they’ll either look for ways to write you up to terminate you or push you until you quit.
