Pros

Everyone in the Tech team is friendly, helpful and open-minded. Things are really fun here pre-Covid. Great work-life balance, absolutely no complains about this. Even when things gets rough during peak, my peers would jump on to help. And the company is also always trying to do better the next time round. Good level of freedom to propose ideas and test things out. Sufficient time given for learning how a new thing work or for new joiners to improve. Basically, you are treated as a respected and valuable individual of the company. Delightful benefits and an okay compensation. Good and consistent communication from upper management. Multiple ways available to make my voice heard, from anonymous surveys to global Q&A sessions to local calls and 1-to-1 catch-ups. The previous comment of this same role made me wonder if that was from a real employee or not.

Cons

Not for people who enjoys a fast-paced environment. Can feel too stagnant or comfortable here. Some times it feels that my career development has come to a stand-still. Culture has eroded a bit, not sure due to Covid or the transition to our parent company.

Pros

Everyone will tell you what you want to hear and sound like they mean it. Close to CalTrain

Cons

It's in Burlingame, CA. You will be promised things in the interview that will not be true. You will be "oversold" the position (their words - not mine) so if it's too good to be true-- it's probably not true. The break room is pitiful. The on-boarding process was relentless and they made me feel bad about expecting things to be set up before I started. They have a "that's just the way it is" kind of attitude. They are a benefits company that won't even invest in a 401k option for the U.S. team or even other mainstream benefit packages (gym, lunches, etc). The office has barely any sunlight. Getting reimbursed for expenses (flights, phone, phone bill) takes way too long. It took them more than 3 weeks to get my insurance set up. The main office is in London (which you may never even get to see like they promise you) and it is difficult to communicate with anyone there about important matters. It took them more than 3 weeks to get me a proper power cord for my laptop. You HAVE to use a Dell Laptop. They won't invest in you until you fully invest in them. They treat you as though you should be lucky to work for them instead of them being lucky to have you working there.

We are sorry to hear that your brief time with Thomsons didn’t live up to your expectations. Our US office is very much a start-up and the look, feel and environment of the office reflect that. Our recruitment process is very transparent about what it is like to work at Thomsons and what’s on offer, and our culture is very much orientated to a partnership and balance between us and Thomsons People. This does require a get-up-and-go, can do approach, and the ‘you get out what you put in’ which is common is most of our reviews is representative of the company. Sadly, sometimes it comes down to simply not being the right fit. We wish you all the best.
