Pros

I don't know if this can be considered a pro, but you're not the only one in the trenches. Also, most of the employees are amiable, and you gain a sense of camaraderie in your shared misery.

Cons

It feels like the company is a novice trapeze artist attempting to walk a length of floss in a hurricane. There is no communication between upper management and the people doing all of the work. There was more than one occasion where I felt the company was going under because of secret, shady deals going on behind closed doors. There is no opportunity for growth in the company. To apply for another position within the company, you have to jump through more hoops than outside applications, and you still will not get the position. This is just one of the many reasons that this company is a revolving door. Most of all, there is blatant favoritism occurring among the management. There a few employees who are awarded special privileges including unlimited work-from-home days and casual dress attire. This shows a disregard of professionalism, seeing as many employees are never awarded the opportunity to work from home and have to dress in full business attire. Furthermore, there is a tense atmosphere in the office created by management. It feels like an us-versus-them scenario. One manager is especially unfriendly and has limited knowledge of what it takes to run a company composed of hardworking people. The CEO is unaware of his employees unhappiness, and I would be surprised if he could one person working in the trenches. Also, it's poor pay compared to the workload. I could go on.

Pros

A great place to work if you are self-driven/motivated. The size of the organization and receptivity to ideas, thoughts and suggestions on how to build the business are key positive attributes.

Cons

You need to have an entrepreneurial spirit with a thirst to learn and grow in order to be successful.

Pros

The majority of the people who work here are great. Since it's such a small company (less than 50 people) you get to know your co-workers well and they become like a second family.

Cons

One of the Directors manages by instilling fear, which tends to pervade the work environment at times. The President seems not to involve himself with the daily operations of the company and allows a lot to go on that he may/may not even be aware of. There is a general lack of accountability and a lot of favoritism when it comes to special arrangements, such as special work hours and the ability (or not) to work from home. Upper management tends to base recognition, raises and promotions on their personal perception of you, versus reality. There is very little in the way of career path development. Reviews/promotions/raises are spotty at best. Since there is no real Board of Directors, and since the company is private, there is very little accountability and reinforcement to ensure that all employees are treated equally and fairly. Wages are not competitive within the industry.
