Pros

Nice location in the summer, except the mosquitoes. Doesn't get too hot, and humidity is generally manageable. Not too far from the river or Lake Sacajawea for fishing or boating. Water stays pretty cold in the lake for swimming though.

Cons

One of the coldest places on earth, with lots of snow most years. Be prepared to stay in the position that you are hired into for years, things change slowly up here. Lots of arrogance from people that went to North Dakota State College of Science (in the trades), and NDSU and UND (in management and engineering). Prejudice against people that went to other schools, which carries affects who gets promoted. Pay tends to be (and stay) low compared to comparable employment elsewhere. Impact from the oil field work in the area, driving up housing and other living costs. We say that working here is like living in the oil fields without the oil field paycheck. No entertainment most of the year, except the river and lake, but drinking. Drinking is done in cliques, so if you aren't in one, you will be drinking alone. I don't participate to avoid the drama, but have been around enough to see what goes on. Management is the "Good Old Boy's Club" - literally, right on up into Basin Electric, the parent company.
