Pros

Great people to work with. People genuinely care about their colleagues. Good amount of flexibility in my role as far as periodically working remotely. I've had some travel opportunities, and I've enjoyed seeing my work contribute directly to an eternal purpose.

Cons

Support raising can be tough, and there's not always a lot of encouragement for single staff to work towards affording their own place. It seems like being in one's 30s living in a house with four roommates is just kind of normalized. There's also not much opportunity to increase income outside of raising support. Not allowed to get part-time jobs or have much hobby income. I would also say that especially among staff who raise support, Cru is kind of bottom heavy. Sometimes there's just not enough work to go around at the lower levels and there is kind of a bottleneck to move up because people tend to stay put for a long time. This creates a sense of shame for me because I might not have enough to fill my time while still needing to make it seem to my donors that I have a lot going on. Support raising adds a financial element to relationships, and I've been struggling with that for some time.

Pros

There are many pros to working with Cru. Great people and great teams doing great work in the lives of students at the campuses where they serve. You really get to know fellow coworkers well, and feel connected doing ministry together. You also get to witness firsthand what God is doing. Cru also provides good support and flexibility for needs - whether it be mental health considerations, having children, or needing help on the job. There is also great training provided for the role.

Cons

Support raising can be challenging, even with support and training. National seems to be a little disconnected from campus teams at times.
