Pros

Unique scientific research in the area

Cons

Run for the hills. While they do interesting research, the culture and environment are the most toxic and absurd I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing. There is clear favoritism towards certain staff members, particular male employees. Female/female presenting employees are overworked, belittled publicly for extremely minor things, not respected and several (including me) have been touched on their person (face, upper thigh) without their consent. HR claims they do not keep records of formal complaints (which is illegal), and I was told after filing a harassment complaint that I made everything up, even with pages of evidence and documentation. I had proof from IT of evidence in my favor being erased from shared sites, and HR forced IT to delete the entire ticket/case. Entry level employees are taken advantage of and are made to feel nervous about their job security on a regular basis, which in turn makes them shun whistleblowers out of self preservation. There is one particular person that all the poisonous culture stems from, and upper management protects this person even with half a dozen harassment complaints against them. Permission for accommodations is regularly rescinded and employees are punished even if they followed direction/had approval. My phone would blow up outside of my contracted working hours (5-6am, 11pm, etc) and told by my supervisor that I was unwanted and disliked by them from the beginning. This place was so bad that I began having scary thoughts that almost required a hospital. They have a solid reputation for research in the local scientific community which is why I wanted to work there initially, but I was emotionally abused, belittled and ostracized on a daily basis after blowing the whistle on harassment and wild levels of unprofessionalism.
