Pros

Located downtown close to South Station which is helpful for commuting, but even though they claim to be "hybrid" you are going to feel guilty every time you work remotely, and you will have to deal with ownership randomly changing their mind about whether they want to be in person, hybrid, or remote. This company is surviving somehow. The goal seems to be to keep the company afloat until the owners can retire or sell. I was really unhappy during my time there, and the number of people I have worked with or met during/post working there who were as unhappy or more is telling. So a "pro" would be how the company is still afloat even though so many people leave unhappy.

Cons

Long hours, poor pay (that they think is good), no professional growth. Diversity is VERY bad. Sad "club" culture of if you are one of the owners or upper management you can do whatever you want, but everyone else is "take one for the team." If you are on a manager or owner's good side, you know it. And if you are on their bad side you REALLY know it. They make excuses for long hours and low pay by saying things like "we are a family here" and "we care about culture," but they don't back that up at all. Management is not qualified. If you take a job here, be ready to be told what to do by people who don't know what they are doing, who don't teach you anything, but are very happy to blame you when things go bad. This trickles down and it ended up being one of the most toxic jobs I've ever had. It is sad too because it seems like once every year or two a lot of people quit or get fired, management and ownership say that "this time it will be different," and then it is the same thing. If you want to get into the event or hospitality industry, do yourself a favor and take a chance at a different company that will pay you better or treat you better. Or both. This company won't do either and they won't help you in the industry.

Corinthian Events Response
3y
We are very sorry that your experience at Corinthian Events was negative. Your perceptions are your own and we cannot change them. The meeting and event industry is continuously ranked among the top five most stressful jobs and striking a balance is indeed difficult. The past few years have been challenging in ways we never imagined. While we do our best to make our company a wonderful place to work, the obstacles presented by the pandemic made it difficult for employees, managers, and owners. Even the largest most successful companies have found it difficult to come up with the best equation for remote/in-person work. You can't tell how it will work until you try. We do realize that this can cause confusion and additional stress; we are trying to do what is best for the company, our clients and our people. Corinthian Events is one of the top event, meeting, and destination management companies in New England. We have grown organically over the years in response to client need. We were nimble during the pandemic, and were able to retain our most senior planners, each of whom have a tenure of more than five years. We have been doing our best to respond to the rapid return of in-person events, though hiring and training. Striking that elusive work/life balance has been extremely difficult at this accelerated pace. We have turned away significant amounts of business this year in an effort to not over stress the team and cause burnout. The bottom line is that we're simply not the right fit for everyone, and we all wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Kindest regards

Pros

Each and every member of the team is very passionate about events and that shows. Throughout my time there I felt at ease and supported by the team. Got to learn and do a lot in little time; a very rewarding experience.

Cons

No cons to be named. Just important to know that there are two offices: one in Boston and one in Newport.

Pros

- Hard-working environment - More than happy to answer your questions

Cons

- Unpaid - They only pay you when you work an event that is 'outside' your work hours - I worked an event with no breaks from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM (during work hours, therefore unpaid), they forgot to feed me and told me to walk back to work after. I never said a word until the exit interview where I mentioned this, and my boss said, 'you should have brought snacks'. This type of thing happened frequently, showing a lack of organization. - When they make a mistake you are responsible for the mistake and it is called a 'learning experience' - Sometimes they hire outside people to work alongside interns for the warehouse tasks that can take more than a week to finish, but they pay them by the hour and not the interns. - When I explained my concerns in the exit interview, my boss said, 'it sucks, but you're not special we've all been there.'
