Pros

-Supportive direct nursing management. Immediate RN managers were invested in their staff and genuinely cared about our wellbeing and safety -Clean environment -Security is responsive -Lots of free continuing education courses to keep skills "fresh". Nurse educators also do a good job of addressing our questions and offering skills labs. -Work itself is incredibly meaningful.

Cons

-Health insurance is TRASH. High medical copays and out-of-pocket maximums, prior authorizations frequently denied, calls to request provider-to-provider consults unreturned. This is extremely disappointing considering Corewell owns Priority Health, the insurance company we are contracted with to use. They could make our insurance benefits so much better, but choose not to. This is one of the biggest complaints of Corewell staff, please consider this before you consider applying for a job here. -Floors are frequently understaffed for NA's and RN's, and float staff are not considered unless there are multiple call-ins. -High RN/NA turnover -High nurse-to-patient ratios, bordering unsafe. -Although seemingly standard for all hospitals, having to use vacation time (PTO) when taking a sick day sucks, especially when it's often exposure at work that gets us sick. -Often experienced back pain due to lack of patient lift equipment -Sometimes felt like an unsafe nurse due to too-high acuity patients being placed on our floor. This in addition to short-staffing is a recipe for disaster and burnout. I rarely was able to take a break due to this. - Two-year employment contract for new nurses with nurse "residency". Unfortunately the info taught in residency itself was not useful, had lots of nurse "values" and history of nursing sessions. -Overall very high stress and had to take time off for my mental health. -At one point, hospital nursing management was on-site at start of night shift (very unusual), interrupting patient care, to union bust.

Pros

Great Patient Care, Technology, and open to new ideas & approaches. Primary Care should be studied for the approach to culture in the workplace

Cons

Culture is pushed but not followed. Not assuming positive intent, creating a hostile work environment. Feeling vs facts. Which includes, in the clinic and in administration. Evaluations / Performance feedback; are based on perception vs quantifiable metrics. Team members are made aware of improvements during the yearly review. If a provider is not meeting expectations or not meeting clinical standards it maybe addressed, without follow up or not addressed until there is a rear miss or patient harm Career opportunities are not based on performance it is based on popularity. In the event an internal candidate is not selected for a role; there isn't communication on how to move forward in their career aspirations; a thanks but no thank email is sent. Years of service and exceeding expectations doesn't resonate as a positive attribute.
