Pros
You don't need to be an IT wizard to work there.
Cons
This company was formed at least in my mind to liaise with IBM or rather to keep a watchful eye on Big Blue when WPP and company decided to outsource IT to Big Blue. So if you were somebody important or knew somebody important at WPP you might be saved in this safe haven that's called Coretech instead of got shipped to Big Blue where one was constantly in peril on the cutting board. As a matter of fact most of all the IT hands-on positions were outsourced overseas. Coretech is like a make believe company within WPP that's used to manage some aspects of IT, called gating or some fancy managerial term, to make sure Big Blue is doing its job. And also manages other sub's local office IT. Despite outsourcing the lion share of IT to Big Blue there are still some local IT folks that aren't IBMers. You know WPP just can't trust Big Blue entirely right? Some important IT functions like HR and enterprise reporting were still closely managed and run by WPP employees ... at least during my time there. Coretech is basically a big bureaucracy within a still bigger bureaucracy, whose purpose of existence is to deal with IBM or something something to that extent.
