Pros

When I started at CPP, the other members of the core (headquarters) team were incredible. We were aligned with a powerful mission and vision that we all believed, and really worked together to make it a great place for people to work.

Cons

As they started shedding core members of the team (always telling people they had “left for another opportunity even when they had been laid off), it became very obvious that those roles were being backfilled by pals and cronies on the Cortec equity group board, rather than veterinary business professionals with a vested interest in the success of the people at the hospital level. Everything became (and, I hear, has only become more so) laser focused on wringing every drop of revenue from the people working at the hospitals while cutting every unethical and probably illegal corner they can. There is now not a single person working for the core team that is a veterinarian or even a dedicated veterinary professional. They have also asked their investors (many of whom were swindled into investing under false promises) to give even more of their money because they’re spending it so fast lining the pockets of the C-suite. Also, they have laid off (aka fired without cause) a dozen or more people by saying that position was being eliminated, only to reopen the role soon after for another person.

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. We understand that change is not always easy. The leadership and Support team (formerly Core team) has evolved to become a hospital-centric team instead of a corporate team. The support team is dedicated to the health and success of our network of hospitals. We are focused on serving the needs of our team members, which includes our veterinarians, our clinical staff and our client services team members who do great work every day. We strive to build an engaging work place where every team member is valued, recognized for their hard work and appreciated.

Pros

Compassionate, Caring & Dedicated Teams Exceptional clinical care at our hospitals Strong field leadership and Corporate Support team Growth & Innovation focused Leadership commitment and engagement Recognition of hard work

Cons

There is a high focus on accountability and attention to detail. This is a POSITIVE for most people but not everyone wants to have this level of responsibility and commitment that it takes to stabilize and grow a business.

Pros

Dedicated hospital-level teams genuinely care about patient care, clients, and supporting one another. There are talented individuals throughout the organization who work hard despite challenging circumstances.

Cons

Executive leadership often operates from a place of fear rather than trust, resulting in excessive micromanagement and an environment where employees may hesitate to provide honest feedback or challenge decisions. There appears to be significant overlap in personal and longstanding professional relationships among members of the leadership team, which can create perceptions of favoritism, bias, and a lack of diverse perspectives in decision-making. Many operational initiatives seem reactive rather than strategic, leading to the creation of additional trackers, reports, and administrative tasks that increase workload without clearly improving outcomes. Instead of empowering local leaders to use their expertise and judgment, there is often a focus on monitoring activity rather than supporting meaningful results. The private equity ownership group entered the veterinary industry without prior veterinary medicine experience. While financial performance is important in any business, there are times when decisions appear to prioritize short-term revenue objectives over the unique realities of veterinary healthcare, team wellbeing, and sustainable hospital operations. There is a noticeable disconnect between executive leadership and the day-to-day challenges faced by hospitals. Leaders would benefit from spending more time understanding frontline operations before implementing broad organizational changes.
