The wages are good, but the work culture is soul-sucking - Shop Floor Worker, Union Collins Aerospace Employee Review

Pros

Good wages and quarterly raises Serviceable benefits package

Cons

It's not surprising for a multi-billion-dollar corporation that depends on its labor force to be deeply anti-labor in culture. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Rockford, IL may be the only unionized site in the country. Shop floor workers are functionally lower-class citizens, and we're treated/spoken to as such. Our input is not sought, let alone considered. Safety is not a priority, unless management or EH&S can somehow lay the blame at our feet. Our equipment is substandard and poorly maintained. Our work instructions are often woefully out of date, and sometimes outright incorrect. I have personally been instructed by management to violate quality policy and safety standards in order to meet production goals. This is a common occurrence, and know that if you were to go along with this, management will not take the heat for it with you. I understand that laborers are probably not flocking to Glassdoor for insight, but we build/test/handle the product. We know the process. However, we are not treated as part of the team. If you are a person who just wants to do the job and do the job well, prepare yourself for disappointment. The pay is excellent, but you may often wonder if it's worth it.

Pros

40 hr/wk Easy work for the pay Ability to use vacation with little notice Some leadership is willing to help you move up and increase pay quickly

Cons

Leadership does not communicate with one another Little room to move up or into another department without someone leaving Poor standards in comparison to other sites within the company Employees who do not meet efficiency standards receive no consequences and are not informed of process issues (leadership issue) Tribal knowledge seems to run the site, not standard work It is a family affair.
