Pros

You work at a library, so that's a bonus

Cons

Leadership at the top is extremely mediocre. The CEO horrible! Workplace culture & equity: Staff of color often encounter microaggressions, inequities in advancement, and lack of genuine support from leadership, making the environment difficult to navigate. Leadership challenges: Management can sometimes be inconsistent, micromanaging, or unsupportive, which leads to low morale and burnout. Limited advancement opportunities: Career growth paths are not always clear or accessible, especially for underrepresented staff. High workload: Staff are expected to manage many projects and programs simultaneously, often without adequate staffing or resources. Bureaucracy & slow change: As a large institution, it can be resistant to innovation, with changes taking a long time to implement. Emotional toll: Working with the public, especially in urban environments, can be stressful due to safety concerns, challenging patron behavior, and lack of proper support systems.

Pros

I have a great supervisor who is very laid back. All of my coworkers are nice and supportive. No micromanaging but everyone gets the job done.

Cons

Sometimes the patrons can be very difficult and will burn you out but that has nothing to do with the company, just the nature of the job.

Pros

- pay isn't horrible - good benefits - some people working there were actually pleasant to be around

Cons

One review said "Staff of color often encounter microaggressions", and this is 1000% true. Another review said "Management can sometimes be inconsistent, micromanaging, or unsupportive" and I will also agree this is 100% true. Ironically most of the employees are people of color, but you will still face microaggressions. Ultimately it depends on who your coworkers are and who is managing you. But there are micromanagers who do not listen to you and do not care for your well being which is unfortunate because that makes people not stay for long (with the exception of managers and higher up positions of course)
