Consulting by Buzzword: Every Client Engagement Feels Like a Hackathon - Quality Engineer ClearRoute Employee Review

Pros

There are genuinely talented and hardworking people across the company. Many colleagues are supportive, intelligent, and easy to work with. Unfortunately, many of the strongest people eventually leave once they realise how the organisation actually operates. The company also puts a lot of effort into socials, events, food and drinks, which some people enjoy.

Cons

Many client engagements feel chaotic and rushed, closer to a hackathon than a professional consultancy engagement. Teams are often staffed with people who are learning technologies or domains for the first time while already delivering to clients. There is limited investment in building genuine expertise or long-term capability within the team. Instead, delivery can feel driven by buzzwords and sales narratives rather than deep technical knowledge. The culture can sometimes feel like a tight inner circle, where influence and opportunity appear concentrated among a small group. This creates the impression of a “boys club” dynamic where progression and influence are not always transparent. Transparency around internal decisions is also lacking. Organisational changes and restructures can feel opaque and are sometimes only discussed when people directly ask about them. The company often celebrates how much it spends on socials and perks, which can feel misplaced when compared to the level of investment in training, mentorship, and technical depth. There is also a strong perception that much of the work originates from personal networks and existing relationships rather than through clearly competitive processes. While networking is normal in consulting, the lack of transparency about it can raise questions internally. Overall, the company has the potential to be much stronger than it currently is, but the gap between the marketing narrative and the delivery reality is difficult to ignore.

Pros

ClearRoute exists because we believe platform engineering deserves to be done properly, not as an afterthought, but as the thing that lets great software get built and run well. That conviction runs through everything here. We're betting early and seriously on AI-native delivery, and the work people get to do on the back of that is genuinely ahead of the market. The calibre of the engineers is the thing I'm proudest of. People here care about the craft, push each other, and get real ownership of meaningful client problems rather than being a small cog in a big machine. If you want to be close to the impact of your work and have a hand in shaping where a company goes, this is a rare place to do it. We also take the partnership and the technology direction seriously, which means the problems you work on tend to be the interesting ones, the ones that are still being figured out.

Cons

We're scaling fast, and that brings the trade-offs you'd expect: priorities can shift, and some of the process and structure is still being built as we grow. That suits people who like ambiguity and want to help shape how things work, it's less comfortable if you prefer everything settled and defined on day one. We're conscious of it and actively investing in getting the foundations right.

Pros

I'd heard plenty of positives about ClearRoute before joining, but honestly, it surpassed all my expectations. The transparency about where the company is heading, what it values, and how it wants to grow was immediately clear and has stayed consistent throughout my first year. That's rare. What struck me first was the welcome. Colleagues from every region made the effort to reach out, and it felt genuine, not forced. A year in, I can confirm that warmth isn't a one-off; it reflects who this company actually is. The values aren't wall art, they're how people operate day to day. ClearRoute is at an exciting point in its growth, which means the work is demanding and the pace is fast. But that's the appeal. You're surrounded by highly skilled colleagues, given the space to contribute meaningfully, and encouraged to keep learning. I've had to stretch into new areas and share knowledge across the team, and both have been genuinely rewarding. No company is perfect, but what matters is whether you can raise challenges openly. At ClearRoute, I genuinely feel I can, and that counts for a lot. The next year will be equally challenging, but I know we'll get there by sticking to our values and supporting each other.

Cons

Growing quickly means adopting new ways of working to scale successfully, and that takes time. ClearRoute is actively driving this, but it won't always be seamless. If you can bring some patience and accept that not everything will be perfect straight away, you'll love it
