Pros

Lessons are pre-made slides so there's minimal lesson prep The pay was very good for the work being done

Cons

I applied since the job advert specifically requested a year 12/13 tutor for maths. Once I got the position, I was given year 7 classes, then removed only a few weeks later as it didn't play to my strengths. I then had several opportunities to take year 12/13 classes (some were directly sent to me) and I never even got a response from the same people who offered those classes to me. I would strongly recommend working for a company that values your skill sets and provides you with work that they promised to give to you.

Pros

Pre-prepared PowerPoints available - can help to save some time, unless you prefer using your own resources instead. Admin - friendly and responsive team who work very hard to contact parents and facilitate crisis management, as well as assigning classes. A high volume of lessons is up for grabs, if you have the availability! They effectively handle liaison with parents, so that tutors can focus on tutoring. ClassTutor portal - an awesome online resource implemented recently, which helps both tutors and tutees alike, in and out of the lessons!

Cons

Pay - a sudden, unexplained decrease in the rates for lessons since last year… Group classes of 5+ students become far trickier to manage, with no further financial incentive whatsoever for the tutor (capped at £25/hr). I had several classes that were far too large - this made the company lots of money, but made my life significantly harder, whilst also reducing the lesson quality for other students already in the group Bonus - this might as well not exist, with a patronisingly low reward after a year of hard work, half of which you only receive if you continue until the next academic year! Benefits - requesting leave is far too tricky and inconsistent a process with lots of hoops to jump through, despite how much you contribute to the company - even if you are teaching 25+ hours a week! “No shows” - no financial compensation at all for preparing a resource and waiting 15 minutes in a zoom call, when a student doesn’t turn up.
